When cooking, the difference is pretty subtle. Maybe those cookies taste a little too vanilla-y. Maybe the extra paprika in the sauce makes you sneeze. Maybe the extra cilantro overpowers the guacamole and gets stuck in your teeth and so on.

When taking narcotics such as cough medicine with codeine prescribed by your doctor for a recent bout of bronchitis, however, the difference is not so subtle. Maybe you wake up on the bathroom floor. Maybe you are lucky to wake up at all.

All I am saying is: I am an idiot.

But I did wake up. So I’ve got that going for me. Which is nice.
